Search

Find messages across your workspace with full-text search and filters.

Search runs full-text over the messages you have access to. You only ever see messages you can read — search never surfaces content from channels or DMs you're not in.

  1. Open search from the top of the app and type what you're looking for.
  2. Sangria matches your terms against message text and shows results newest-first.
  3. Results are paginated — keep scrolling to load older matches.

Narrow with filters

Type these filters right into the query box, alongside your search terms, to scope where Sangria looks:

  • in:#channel-name — limit results to a single channel.
  • from:@person — only messages sent by that person.
  • to:@person — only messages in your direct message with that person.

You can combine a filter with search terms — for example, in:#marketing launch date finds messages containing "launch date" in the marketing channel.

You only see what you can read

Filters narrow results, they don't unlock anything. Searching in:#some-private-channel returns nothing if you're not a member — the same access rules that apply everywhere in Sangria apply to search.

Tips

  • Start broad, then filter. Type a keyword first, then add from:@person or in:#channel-name to cut the list down.
  • Looking for a DM? Use to:@person to jump straight into that conversation's history.
  • Order is fixed. Results always come back newest-first, so the most recent match is at the top.
